Atlanta, GA – Attorney General Carr issued the following statement upon the announcement of Chief Justice Melton’s retirement later in the year:

Chief Justice Harold Melton’s service to the State of Georgia is to be commended. His travel to the highest position in the Georgia Judiciary included 11 years working here at the Georgia Department of Law. In our office, Harold headed up the tax section and the consumer interests section and was the lead attorney in this office on the startup of the Georgia Lottery Corporation and later served as lead on the landmark litigation against tobacco manufacturers.  On behalf of all of us at the Georgia Department of Law, thank you for your service Chief Justice Melton.
