Carr Leads 10-State Coalition, Obtains Victory in Blocking the WOTUS Rule

ATLANTA, GA – Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia granted summary judgment in favor of Georgia and 9 other states in their lawsuit challenging the Obama Administration’s 2015 Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule and kept an injunction against the Rule in place while federal agencies finalize its replacement.

Carr Joins 51 Attorneys General and 12 Companies in Fight Against Illegal Robocalls

Carr: Georgia Leads States in Reaching Settlement with Equifax, Secures $425M in Consumer Restitution

Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that a coalition of 50 attorneys general, including 48 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, has reached a settlement with Equifax as the result of an investigation into the 2017 data breach. Georgia played a leading role in this investigation which found that Equifax’s failure to maintain a reasonable security system enabled hackers to penetrate its systems, exposing the data of 56 percent of American adults—the largest-ever breach of consumer data. The attorneys general secured a settlement with Equifax that includes a Consumer Restitution Fund of up to $425 million, a $175 million payment to the states and injunctive relief, which also includes a significant financial commitment. This is the largest data breach enforcement action in history.

Carr: Illegal Credit Repair Operation to Pay $1M Penalty

ATLANTA, GA – Attorney General Chris Carr today announced a $1.75 million settlement with Financial Education Services, Inc. (FES) and its owners Michael Toloff and Parimal Naik, alleging that they violated the Georgia Fair Business Practices Act by operating an illegal credit repair business and using unlawful and deceptive practices in their multi-level marketing structure.
