STATEMENT: Attorney General Chris Carr on President Trump’s Executive Order Addressing Clean Power Plan
ATLANTA, GA – Attorney General Chris Carr applauds President Donald Trump’s Executive Order initiating a review of the Clean Power Plan.
“The Clean Power Plan was a far-reaching attempt by the prior administration to regulate what it could not legislate,” said Attorney General Chris Carr. “We oppose regulatory overreaches like the Clean Power Plan, which will kill jobs and raise electricity prices, and we appreciate President Trump’s commitment to reviewing this rule and to restoring the proper roles of Congress and the States.”
In 2015, the state of Georgia was part of a multi-state, bipartisan coalition that brought suits arguing that the Clean Power Plan exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority and that it is unlawful and unconstitutional by attempting commandeer states into carrying out federal energy policy.
In 2016, Georgia and 23 other States sent a letter to the Trump Administration, asking the Administration to take steps toward withdrawing the Clean Power Plan.
