ATLANTA- Today, Attorney General Sam Olens applauded Governor Nathan Deal for signing HB 770, which expands Georgia's laws on sexual trafficking to include enhanced penalties for trafficking individuals with developmental disabilities. It also strengthens law enforcement’s ability to use undercover officers to proactively investigate sex trafficking of minors.

Attorney General Olens said, “Human trafficking is a scourge on our communities that robs citizens of their dignity, innocence and basic human rights. With HB 770 signed into law, we continue the fight against this horrendous crime. I would like to thank Representative Chuck Efstration and Senator Renee Unterman for their leadership in the passage of this bill.”

Representative Chuck Efstration added, “This legislation will help to protect Georgia's most vulnerable, children and the developmentally disabled, from the horrific crime of human trafficking. I'm very proud to have carried this bill.”

Combating human trafficking has been a key priority of Attorney General Olens since he took office in 2011. During his first year in office, he worked with the Georgia General Assembly to strengthen Georgia’s human trafficking law, which is now a national model. This past week, the Attorney General launched a PSA campaign entitled “Unmasked” which seeks to target the customers and in a gritty way shows that they are not anonymous.
