Attorney General Sam Olens Joins Forces with Olympian Apolo Ohno to Fight Underage Drinking and Encourage Kids to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

April 25, 2012

Attorney General Sam Olens has teamed up with Olympic Gold Medalist Apolo Ohno and The Century Council to release a Public Service Announcement (PSA) encouraging kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking. The PSA is part of The Century Council’s Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix campaign.

“Kids look up to athletes like Apolo Ohno as role models all the time. However it is important to remember that the most significant role model for them is their parents. Research has shown that parents are the most important influence on their child’s decision not to drink alcohol,” said Attorney General Sam Olens.   “Parents can take a page out of Apolo Ohno’s playbook and set a positive example for their kids by engaging in physical activities and healthy lifestyle choices like saying ‘NO’ underage drinking.”

“Last year The Century Council, recognizing that young people spend a great deal of time online, ran an extremely successful online campaign,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of The Century Council. “Following up on the success of last year’s initiative, we decided to create a spot with Olympian and Ask, Listen, Learn spokesman   Apolo Ohno and Georgia Attorney General Olens and launch them in the online platforms to effectively reach parents.”

The interactive Ask, Listen, Learn website –– encourages kids to become part of the Ask, Listen, Learn Team by making a pledge to be active for 60 minutes a day and to say ‘NO’ to underage drinking. It also gives parents the tools they need to start and continue the sometimes difficult conversation about underage drinking with facts and information, underage drinking materials, and their youth fitness blog.

The Century Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Established in 1991, The Century Council’s initiatives are highlighted on its website at
