Attorney General Sam Olens Continues Commitment to Open Government by Leveraging Social Media
In another effort to increase government transparency and accountability, Attorney General Sam Olens announced that the Georgia Department of Law has joined Facebook and Twitter. The department will use these social media platforms to keep constituents informed about the activities of the Attorney General’s office, including recently issued press releases, upcoming events, helpful new articles and photos.
“On the campaign trail I made it clear that, if elected, one of my priorities would be to promote open government,” said Attorney General Sam Olens. “Facebook and Twitter provide another vehicle to make my office more accessible to Georgia citizens. Millions of people use social media everyday, and it is my hope that these platforms will provide an additional tool for citizens to stay connected with my office.”
Facebook is a social network that enables users to connect with friends, join networks, share information, support causes and public figures and upload photos. Twitter is a microblogging site that allows users to share updates, known as tweets, using 140 characters or less. Facebook has over 500 million users and Twitter has 175 million users.
