Attorney General Baker announced today that an indictment was returned by the Fulton County Grand Jury against Asif M. Siddiqui, a former Georgia Technology Authority employee. The indictment charges Siddiqui with three counts of computer theft, three counts of computer invasion of privacy, and seven counts of computer trespass. All of these counts are felonies punishable by imprisonment of up to fifteen years and/or a fine of up to $50,000.

The indictment alleges that Siddiqui, an employee in GTA's Computer/Information Technology department, would periodically access,view and download motor vehicle records of Georgia drivers housed on the computers of the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles. Siddiqui was not authorized to access or view these records. These records contained driver names, addresses, license numbers, driving history, and sometimes social security numbers.

Assistant Attorney General Cassandra Schansmann is prosecuting the state's case. The case investigation was handled by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation..
