Attorney Generals Elect Georgia Attorney General As Chair Of Southern Region
(Atlanta) Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker has been elected chair of the Southern Region of Attorneys General at the recent meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General. Baker was elected by his fellow Attorneys General from the Southern Region, which stretches from Virginia to Texas. This election marks the third time that Baker has been selected by his colleagues to represent the Southern Region’s interests in the national organization.
As chair, Attorney General Baker will serve on the executive committee of the National Association. The executive committee oversees policy and litigation strategies undertaken by the nation’s Attorneys General. Recent initiatives by the organization include litigation against the tobacco industry, which resulted in settlement payments to the state for costs incurred in treating smoking-related illnesses, and litigation against Bridgestone-Firestone over tread separation in certain tire models, which resulted in replacement tires being offered to affected consumers nationwide. Attorney General Baker also will continue to serve as the National Association’s official delegate to the governing board of the American Bar Association.
