(Atlanta) Attorney General Thurbert Baker announced today that Angela Yvonne Burden had pled guilty to one count of theft by taking in Fulton County Superior Court. The court sentenced Burden to 12 months of probation, a $600 fine, and 60 hours of community service. Burden made restitution to Georgia Tech prior to entering her guilty plea.

Burden was employed by the Georgia Institute of Technology, and during the course of her employment she was issued a purchasing card for business use in fulfilling her job responsibilities. From August 2006 through April 2007, Burden used her purchasing card to pay for cable and pay-per-view services at her home, with Georgia Tech receiving the billing for those purchases.

In announcing the resolution of the P-card case, Attorney General Baker remarked, "the violation of the public trust is a significant matter, and my office takes the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting those who broke that trust in these purchasing card cases seriously."

The case was investigated by Special Agent Lisa Verrosi of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the prosecution was handled by Assistant Attorney General Laura Pfister.
