Peggy Kemmerly Eckrote is the Deputy Attorney General for the Regulated Industries and Professions Division where she oversees the Regulated Public Interests, Environmental and Natural Resources, and State Licensing Board Sections. She joined the Law Department in 2000 and worked for nineteen years in the Environmental and Natural Resources Section where she represented a number of state agencies including the Environmental Protection Division, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Coastal Resource Division, among others. Peggy was the Environmental and Natural Resources Section Leader from May 2018 until her appointment as Deputy Attorney General on April 1, 2020. Prior to joining the Law Department Peggy gained extensive trial experience as an officer in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps where she served for nine years on active duty and twelve years in the Army Reserve. She retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2012. Peggy earned a B.S. from Louisiana State University in 1983 and a J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans in 1990.
