Undergraduate Externship Program

Each semester, undergraduate students are offered the opportunity to work directly with the Attorney General’s Communications or Policy teams. 

Potential tasks associated with each role are included below.

Communications:

  • Prepare first drafts of remarks, talking points, and press releases
  • Conduct research for remarks, talking points, and opinion editorials
  • Assist with coordinating media requests
  • Generate and monitor social media content
  • Create graphics and videos for use on digital platforms
  • Prepare daily news clips

Policy:

  • Monitor and track legislative priorities for the Office of the Attorney General
  • Monitor and track committee meetings and schedules
  • Monitor floor debates in both legislative chambers
  • Attend legislative meetings and report back to Policy staff
  • Identify and understand legislative initiatives in other states and their effects
  • Communicate and collaborate with other state agencies regarding current and ongoing public policy initiatives
  • Stay up to date on state and local matters impacting Georgia and its citizens

Requirements

Applicants must be currently enrolled juniors or seniors. Graduate students or those no more than one year past graduation may also be considered. 

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Demonstrate excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to organize large amounts of information, with high attention to detail
  • Be positive and responsive, and show a high level of professionalism
  • Be trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive information
