Duties & Responsibilities

Provides day-to-day oversight for the Lemon Law arbitration program.  Analyzes documents and reviews arbitration applications for accuracy and eligibility determination. Recruits, hires, trains and coordinates with arbitrators.  Responds to inquiries from motor vehicle manufacturers, arbitrators and consumers.  Ensures detailed data is kept on each matter.  Provides advice, counsel, support and technical assistance on a variety of legal matters.  Drafts Rules and handles Certification filings, as appropriate.  Initiates enforcement actions for non-payment of Lemon Law fees by motor vehicle dealers and non-compliance of Lemon Law Decisions by motor vehicle manufacturers. Interacts with the State Arbitration Panel, consumers, manufacturers, counsel, arbitrators, businesses, third-party administrators and other interested parties.  Provides direction and guidance in mediation matters.  Responds to requests for information and provides answers, opinions and recommendations regarding legal, liability and/or risk-management issues. 

The Director of the Lemon Law Administration and Mediation is expected to operate with expert-level working knowledge of Georgia’s Lemon Law, relevant statutes, guidelines, regulations, procedures, and policy decisions governing the operation of the unit.  The Director must be able to interact with consumers, businesses, manufacturer, dealers, third party administrators, interested parties, and all levels of state government in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance; and must maintain operational security.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school and Member of the Georgia Bar
  • Skilled in utilizing Windows-based applications

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, meet one or more of the following:

  • Arbitration knowledge or experience 
  • Demonstrated managerial experience
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Fair Business Practices Act
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Lemon Law and Georgia Lemon Law Rules
  • Fluent in Spanish

Additional Information:

A criminal background check is completed on all candidates; employment is also contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of the background investigation. Candidates that are being strongly considered for the position will also be required to submit a Department of Law employment application & waiver, Georgia Department of Revenue Tax Clearance letter and copies of official college transcripts.
