Legal Secretary- Medicaid Fraud - Civil

The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The Department of Law is organized into the Executive Office, five legal divisions, four specialty units and an operations division. The position filled through this announcement will serve in the Medicaid Fraud Division.

Job Summary:

The primary duties of this position are to provide legal administrative support for the Deputy as well as section's attorneys.  The position manages case files, prepares and mails correspondence, prepares pleadings and documents for filing in various courts, e-files, manages calendaring of court dates and meetings, arranges copying and mailing, responds to and directs citizen and attorney phone calls, works in the CMS and Expert Case systems, and performs other administrative functions as assigned. 


Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  1. Assists in preparation of correspondence, briefs, pleadings, forms, and agreements.
  2. Files pleadings and other legal documents in court, as requested.
  3. Answers the telephone; responds to calls from clients, attorneys, and citizens; and provides general information or transfers calls as appropriate.
  4. Prepares, copies, and faxes or mails a variety of legal documents and correspondence.
  5. Dockets pleadings and distributes mail for the division.
  6. Prepare and types control slips on new cases and distributes cases as requested.
  7. Maintains files for the division; maintains records on the assignment of cases.
  8. Assists in documenting settlements for the division.
  9. Maintains updated legal references for division personnel.
  10. Attends division and departmental meetings as required.
  11. Closes files and coordinates the removal of closed files.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Minimum qualifications: 

  • One-year legal secretary experience


  • Two years’ general secretary experience. 
  • Strong typing skills.
